5 Things I (Still) Love About Breastfeeding

For those of you who don't know or don't remember my story, I was only able to nurse Jackson for 5 months. I still call it a success because it started off so roughly, but supplementing with formula and then having to stop at 5 months wasn't what I planned or wanted. Round 2 with Evie has been so wonderful from the beginning. Here's why I (still) love breastfeeding here at almost 9 months:

5. My boob to waist ratio is the best it's ever been.

4. I get to eat anything I want and lose weight. I'm not kidding. Anything I want. And, I'm almost back to my pre-pregnancy weight/size. Not sure I'll ever be back where I was exactly, but I'm close enough for me!

3. I don't have to fool with water temperature in bottles or packing formula. If my plans change, I'm still good as long as Evie-girl is with me.

2. Anytime you can healthily go 1.5+ years without "Aunt Flow" is a good thing in my book.

And 1. In addition to all of the health benefits for both Evie and myself and the fabulous emotional bonding experience, I so appreciate the fact that I HAVE to sit down several times a day to feed Evie. I can't give her to someone else and go fold laundry or start dinner. Oftentimes, I have to stop whatever I'm doing, and so I just sit and stare at her and try to memorize what she looks like so that I'll never forget. In my busy world, that means a lot to me.

  1. Good for you, Katy! Breastfeeding is one of the most wonderful things a mother can give her child, and extremely rewarding for the mother! I'm so glad that you have been successful for so long!

  2. Number three was huge. The ultimate convenience. And number one, especially as life got busy with other kids, was absolutely God's way of keeping my focus on that precious baby he had given us. Once again, Katy, you have spoken my own memories.
