payton's 5th birthday...father's day...and jackson's 2 month checkup

Payton's 5th birthday...

We did water games last year, and that was a lot of work for everyone involved. Since we just moved into this house and Andrew had to work Saturday morning, we opted to do something much more simple. We had mostly family and a few friends over to celebrate with cake, ice cream, and a super sweet pinata. What's funny is that since there are so many kids in my family under the age of 10 (and Andrew talked me into making my salsa too hot again), it was sort of like a zoo around here, but it was fun. I am always amazed at how wonderful my family is to treat Payton as part of the family. Having a stepdaughter was never in my plans, and it is an experience with many challenges, but I know we're blessed to have Payton, and I so appreciate the loving openness of my friends and family. :) I truly believe that some of her best friends will be cousins she knows through the family, and for that, I am grateful! VBS and cousin Emma are the entertainment this week, so she's pretty exhausted...

Father's Day...

Andrew had to work (surprise!), but we did have dinner at my Mom and Dad's with Pops, Grandpa Bobby, and Andrew. My Dad got some reading material that will make him an expert when it comes time for our Tybee vacation, and Payton and Jackson went to their favorite place - Bass Pro (seriously, Payton admits this) to surprise their Dad with a combo charcoal grill/smoker. Andrew is a great Dad who works all the time and spends the majority of his spare time in school to provide more opportunities for his kids...he deserves this toy. I'm pretty sure he'll use it by the end of the week.

Jackson's 2 month checkup...

Jackson weighs 11 lbs and 8 oz and is 23 inches long! He's in the 50th percentile in both height and weight right now, so that's good. I'm especially grateful for that considering all the trouble we had with weight gain just a few weeks ago...I could tell it was coming though with his chunky legs! Everything looks good...Dr. Washington (whom I adore) says he's "perfect," and I tend to agree. All was well...and then came the shots. He screamed loud and turned almost blue in the face, but recovered fairly quickly. It was tough for me, but the nurse was awesome and did it super fast. He's been fussier and more tired than usual this evening, but I'm hoping that he'll be back to his normal self tomorrow after a good night's sleep. It's really hard to see your baby in pain, so I'm hoping that it's a short-lived experience.

Andrew is off three days this week, so we're looking forward to spending some time with him. It's overdue...
